History

Chuck & Chris Herrick wanted to bring the idea of living in a unique, village style neighborhood to Mansfield, Ohio.

When researching the design of the houses, the couple traveled to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia; German Village in Columbus, Ohio; Burlington, Vermont; and Georgetown, Washington D.C. to collect ideas for what would ultimately become Wilmington Village's six unique styles of homes. These architectural combinations came together to form our Williamsburg inspired neighborhood.

The houses would all be custom built with traditional architecture and set close to the street in the Colonial Williamsburg tradition. The inside of the homes were to include many of the characteristics of a Colonial style home, like pine plank flooring, 9' ceilings, crown molding, and solid six panel doors. Americana tradition would be blend with all the amenities of a new modern home.

The Herricks then collaborated with the late Jack Hire to begin the development. Mr. Hire thought the project was unique and it would be a great attribute to Mansfield. He went on to purchase and develop the land that the homes sit on today.

The Herricks gathered all of their design ideas, and together with architect Geoff Eaton, created the six different model homes. The contractors, Mecurio Construction Co. and Marek & Steiner Builders Inc., were brought in to build the first two homes. The Wilmington Village project was underway!

In 2020 Wilmington Village is a thriving neighborhood with a very bright future that is grounded in a very honorable and distinguished past.
